Summer Love : Ben and Rose

My friends Ben and Rose are getting married this August and we were supposed to an engagement video (cause they're all the rage these days.) but they slacked a little in picking out their locations.

We decided to just do some photos instead. These two claimed to be non-photogenic but I think they really pulled it off! One of my favorite couples to work with, (I guess it's easier to work with good friends.)

They wanted a real natural lit look and so that's what we went for. I used two lights in most of these, one being the sun and the other a speedlight thru an umbrella. I also shot some Velvia 50 on my Mamiya which I'm really excited to get back and see the results.

    Day #144/365 - Ricky (Anthony)

Anthony's got a nickname from some regular's at the Press Club apparently. He was walking home and this girl yells, "Ricky! Ricky!". He looks around and finds out she's talking to him. He asks about the name and the girl explains that they see him walking by most days and everyone calls him Ricky because they think he's got good fashion sense. Pretty funny way to meet new people.

Anyhow, I've been trying my hand at fashion lately, I've always been a fan of fashion (though not extremely fashionable myself) and it's something I'd enjoy shooting more often. I've made it a new year's resolution to update my wardrobe this year, the uniform of white v-necks and jeans needs some help. So this is practice, what do you think?

Kyle. The new roommate.I follow the prepidemic mag and they're tagline is:

    "Celebrate Style, Revere Refinement"

That was my vision for this one. Kyle's a stylish dude, and just an all around rad roommate to have.

I know Corrie through my friend Chris from high school. We played in jazz band together. Anyhow Corrie is graduating this year and we shot her senior portraits today.

She was an awesome model, super relaxed and easy to photograph. This was probably my favorite from the day.

Day #140/365 - My New Roomate

I moved this week to a new house (still downtown and close) and I got some new roommates. Here's the first of a series on them. Meet Matt.

Matt and I met in high school and played in a few bands together. We then both got addicted to World of Wacrack, I got clean, he still plays.

Matt's awesome, probably one of the funniest guys I know when he leaves his room :).

    Day #139/365 - The Intersection

I work the graveyard shift so technically this is day 140 but I have an idea for an actual portrait today, so this will be 139.

I work overnight and get to hear the nice lull of the freeway and streets while I work. I thought I'd put myself to work.

After trying things out with my telephoto, I thought I'd go wide with my 24-70 and this is the result. This photo was a ton of patience actually, just waiting for the cars to pass at the same time on the freeway and intersection. It worked out.

BFF Day #1 and the Aftermath

So BFF kicked off this weekend in Sacramento. Pretty stoked on it. I showed up late so I only have a few photos of the actual event and more photos of the after-party at Brad's.

    BFF-14

From what I caught of the festival at 10pm, it was amazing all day. People were out in mass all way till the end so who knows what it was like during the peak. Photos and more after the click.

I only saw the tail end of NYC messenger video that made me feel invincible on my bike when thrashing through traffic and then the premiere of "Macramento" which is Macaframa's take on cycling in Sacramento. Featuring Cardiel, Squirrel, Kris, Brad and a few other Sacramento riders.

    BFF-16
(I love focusing in the dark) =^D.

I won't give you any spoilers but I will say there was some dirt jumping going on and maybe Cardiel threw out some bangers.

    BFF-15

Day 2 starts at 3pm today at Fremont park with Macashreda Trick Comp. Be there.

    Day #134/365 - After-Party Portrait

The informal after-party for BFF Sacramento 2010 was at Brad's place. This guy approached once I pulled my camera out and started asking questions. I love people like that who take initiative when they're getting into something. He's taking photo 101 next semester and just bought a camera. Best of luck to him!

Can you reverse engineer this. Prettttty easy one.

Day #128/365 - Second Saturday Shenanigans

As the weather gets warmer here in Sacramento, Second Saturday gets more and more popular. Whether or not that's a good thing, is up for discussion but I had some fun. We just walked around, went and saw my buddy Jeremy's band over at Jack's and some art at a few of the local galleries.

The day started with Casey claiming the Suns would take the finals this year. We'll see.

    Day #128/365 - Casey

We then went out on the town.

    Bryan and Beej

On our way home, we met our buddy Kris at Beach Hut Deli and in about 5 minutes a fight unfolded before our eyes. It was pretty funny, I'm not sure how it happened exactly but the guy in all black got rocked by a guy who was 5 foot 6 and maybe 130 pounds.

    Second Saturday Fight

    What a night.

What has the Web Done to Us?

What has the web done to us? Instant information, shortened lines of communication, keep the web moving along with all kinds of vibrations. I've never been more happy to live in today's world, than here and now.

We live in a world of Facebook , Twitter and a million other websites that provide everything from day trading, sometimes, poorly sourced information to mail order brides and a portal to the web's best websites.

Music is shared. Videos are streamed. TV isn't was never on the Radio (though an amazing band) but it's now on the internet.

At 5:29am (PST) I've officially been blown away by the internet, again. Why? More after the click.

Let me rephrase the statement above. I as a photographer, have never been more happy to live in today's world, here and now.

Wait... let me rephrase that again.

I as a photographer, never been more happy, frustrated, challenged, intrigued, encouraged, inspired to live in today's world, here and now.

Let me share with you on how I got here. I work overnight for those of you who didn't read my previous post or didn't know this bit of common knowledge. About three hours ago when I finished most of my work, caught up on Hulu shows and twiddled my thumbs for a bit ; I went on a search for inspiration. So I perused about some of my favorite photography blogs:

    Strobist.... Check.

    LockedCog.... Check.

    FFFFound!.... Check.

    ThemThangs.... Check (NSFW).

    Zack Arias.... Check.

    Chase Jarvis Check... oooh!

I scrolled down Chase'sblog a bit and found this post about adventure.

Chase Jarvis (and many others on and off this list above) has taught me a bunch. He's let me on his frustrations, success, exciting ideas, inspirations, rants and everything in between. He's taught me about the latest gear, techniques and his projects. He's taught me to take chances,to try new things. He's taught me to be a better photographer, a better person.

You know what the best part is? I've never met Chase Jarvis. Haven't shaken his hand, haven't seen him from a distance and waved, I haven't even made eye contact with the guy. The beauty of the web is that he's done all that from a computer.

Crazy? I know. That's not even why I'm blown away. More about in Part Two.
