Beautiful Losers Wednesday, December 15, 2010

I shoot frequently for a popular Weekly here in Sacramento that most of you know as Sacramento News & Review. Some of the stories are boring, but most of them cause me to perk up in wonder. The pay isn't great, but it's nice extra cash, and the real reward is the stories I get to hear and then share through my lens.

Well, not all of my favorite images go to press (the art director and designers only have so much room) so I thought I'd post my favorite rejects. They're beautiful losers in my eyes (hats off to the beat generation, I might read you one day).

Here is Patricia Portico, controversial Quaker I photographed who is helping undocumented CSUS students get a helping hand through a scholarship. This one really taught me something about an issue that I had previously gave a surface value.

I lagged on this but here are some photos of Set Your Goals and Suicide Silence. Halfway through Set Your Goals' set, I just set my camera down and acted like I was sixteen again. More after the click.



Joe is such a rad dude. I got to chat with him backstage before the show.




Suicide Silence brought some metal. I only snapped two because I caught the tail end of their set.

Some of Caseys (pictured) friends came up from San Jose earlier this week to skate a bit. All kinds of fun and pain. I made the mistake of leaving my camera at home for the first day, and some gnarly stuff went down, check out Justin's Blog for the edit in the near future. BFF Day #1 and the Aftermath Saturday, May 15, 2010

So BFF kicked off this weekend in Sacramento. Pretty stoked on it. I showed up late so I only have a few photos of the actual event and more photos of the after-party at Brad's.



From what I caught of the festival at 10pm, it was amazing all day. People were out in mass all way till the end so who knows what it was like during the peak. Photos and more after the click.

I only saw the tail end of NYC messenger video that made me feel invincible on my bike when thrashing through traffic and then the premiere of "Macramento" which is Macaframa's take on cycling in Sacramento. Featuring Cardiel, Squirrel, Kris, Brad and a few other Sacramento riders.


(I love focusing in the dark) =^D.

I won't give you any spoilers but I will say there was some dirt jumping going on and maybe Cardiel threw out some bangers.



Day 2 starts at 3pm today at Fremont park with Macashreda Trick Comp. Be there.

You may remember Kris from the January TrickCat, yeah he's the guy who put that on. When he's not breaking wheels, frames and cranks, he runs the fixed gear blog LockedCog.com.



We've been meaning to get together and shoot some photos since and finally got around to doing it today. He tried to take me to Faces afterward and even told me he'd buy a burger at HotRod's but I rolled out beforehand. It was a pretty cool session, real laid back and I got introduced to this crazy new spot. Kris is a down-to-earth dude, who just really loves riding bikes. I made the poor judgement of riding my bike for two and half hours in the cold while I was sick and now I'm reaping the benefits of that decision. I'm Sick.
